When Ranjan's Mother Quieted the Garden

As a small but unforgettable gesture, Ranjan’s mother surprised the couple with a special cultural blessing rooted in his heritage. Even through language barrier, the moment was powerful and touched the hearts of everyone in attendance. My heart was especially enamored at this act of love between mother and son. Being in a country you’re unfamiliar with, where your language, your culture, even your upbringing is so different than those around you—it can, and has, led many people to hide that all away. Seeing the blessing unfold and witnessing the tenderness in his mother’s touch, it made me proud that moments like this are able to shine in today’s world and that it’s slowly but surely becoming embraced more and more.
